How to get there

Maisha

and

Nosi and the Zulus

Nosi and the Zulus

Our names are... Nosi Zulu on vocals, Peter Grey on bass, Kyle Sahli on keyboards, Bradley Straarup on drums, Ryan Straarup on guitar/vocals...

The band started last year thinking we would just play one gig, but our audience enjoyed us and soon we played a few more gigs that others had organised...

We all decided we would keep it going, we all have a blast playing anyway:)

We are also currently working on an album that could be out in the next few months, unfortunately we dont have a facebook page or photos.  we've sorta been a word of mouth band.

The style we can closely relate to would be like 'freshlyground'... but we combine, swing, jazz, pop and contemporary.

All our songs are written by Nosi (an amazing musician and song writter), our songs are about.... well life haha:)  We are super amped to play and looking forward to it.  Thank you so much for the opportunity.

Feature act

Maisha is the most exciting Durban based Afro Fusion band on the music scene at the moment, and I would like to suggest that Maisha perform at the MMC over the next month or so.

Some highlights are that the band opened for Eddy Grant at the Suncoast Casino on the 22nd Feb 2009. We have also played with the likes of Freshly Ground, John Ellis (Tree63), Prime Circle, Just Jinger, Gang of Instrumentals, City Bowl Mizers, Ladysmith Black Mambasa, Jesse Clegg, Ernie Smith, Natalie Rungan, Spoonfeeders, Mohetella Queens, Tidal Waves, Stealing Love Jones, Pixie Bennet Band, Farryl Purkiss, Guy Buttery, Nibs van der Spuy and loads of KZN based bands and musicians as well as local festivals such as Splashy Fen, Zini Festival, Vacca Matta, Mandela’s Birthday Celebrations, Ulundi Kings Festival, Celebrate Durban, Glenwood Festival, White Mountain, 2010 FIFA Fan Parks, Mr. Price Pro 2010 with the most recent performance being the Sunday Times ECR Durban Day in September 2010. Although unsigned we have completed our first album, called “Stop the War” and have completed our first music video, titled “Afrika Unite”.

We have also been featured and interviewed on SABC’s program ARTCHA. The band has been interviewed several times on East Coast Radio (ECR) and our song “Maria” we have been play listed on ECR for some time now. We have also had all of our musical equipment (including instruments & backline) sponsored by Yamaha

We appeal to a very wide mix of audiences as the music is multi genre and very much of an Afro Fusion type vibe, that incorporates Jazz, Blues, Rock, Folk, Reggae, and we create our own unique brand of songs and a few select covers in English, French and Swahili.

We are hard at work at Face Studios, with our focus being on stage production, song intro’s/outro’s and putting our latest EP together.
